Recycling Rates

As many will have heard, the Shared Waste Service is currently looking at options to improve recycling rates, and to operate flexibly and cost effectively. One of the possibilities is to 'co-mingle' all of the blue bin contents, and stop separating paper out. As this would be a significant change in our approach we are currently evaluating the costs and benefits of any change before discussing this at a Portfolio Holder Meeting (Mark Howell) and then if necessary any decision will be made at Cabinet in September.

In the meantime the residents who are currently not having a separate paper collection (because of vehicle logistics now we work across the border of SCDC and Cambridge City) will continue with this arrangement as originally planned.  We will be updating the information available on the web site to reflect this and ensure new residents are aware of this.

Media Monitoring

Arising from the results of the Member Communication Needs Survey, many members highlighted the fact that residents found out about SCDC matters through the media.

The Council’s Communications Team will produce a weekly summary of recent news items to be published in the Bulletin to help keep members informed of recent coverage of SCDC.

Contact the Communications Team for further information.
