Independent Board Members to Conservators of the River Cam
Cambridge City Council is required to appoint four independent members to the Board of the Conservators of the River Cam for a three-year period starting 1 January 2022.
The Conservators of the River Cam are the Body Corporate who are the Navigation Authority responsible for maintaining the river between the Mill Pond and Bottisham Lock. This is an extremely busy and important stretch of river used by a variety of boat users adding to the energy of the historical city of Cambridge.
This a voluntary position working alongside Cambridge City and Cambridgeshire County Councillors, representatives from Cambridge University and the Environment Agency, board members are currently expected to attend four board meetings per year and could also serve on one or more of the sub-committees.
The role is very similar to a Trustee of a Charity; however, it is a Statutory (Legal) authority which holds legal responsibilities as contained in the Acts and Byelaws. A personal or commercial interest in the river will need to be declared as part of the application process.
Experience and or an awareness of Corporate/Charity Governance, some knowledge of one or more of the following Health and Safety, HR, Finance, UK GDPR, Landlord/landowner responsibilities and other relevant areas of compliance is essential. You must demonstrate an interest in, and/or have knowledge of, some aspect of the river and its use.
To request an information / application pack please contact Claire Tunnicliffe via email, democratic.services@cambridge.gov.uk
The closing date for receipt of applications is noon on 27 September 2021. Interviews will be held via Microsoft Teams.
