S211 Tree Work Notices in the Conservation Area

From Monday 4th October 2021, the weekly Councillor list of all applications/notices within their ward will include an additional note for Councillors which says,
“Councillors are welcome to object to S211 tree work notices in a conservation area by emailing the reason for doing so
to planning.trees@scambs.gov.uk. For clarity these are tree work cases with the suffix /TTCA. In the event of a Councillor objection the trees specified within the notice will be issued with a Tree Preservation Order (TPO) and the case resolved through the TPO process, as this provides us with additional time to do so.”

This is to ensure Councillors are being clearly advised of S211 tree work notices within their wards and know the route to object to them. These S211 Conservation area tree work notices have a very short expiration period, (42 days from submission), before the applicant can simply proceed and undertake the proposed works.

Sometimes it is not possible to satisfactorily resolved all issues within this limited time frame. With this in mind, if a Councillor objects to a S211 notice it will result in an 'objection' to the notice and a provisional Tree Preservation Order (TPO) will be served. This gives more time to consider the issues and objections or collect more information. The case will then be resolved through the TPO creation process. Councillors should note that not all provisional TPO are subsequently confirmed.

Any general queries about trees should also be emailed toplanning.trees@scambs.gov.ukwhere they will be picked up and answered by a member of the  Natural Environment Team.
