Guest speaker - Rachel Vollerthun

Minutes:

Councillor Jose Hales welcomed Rachel Vollerthun to from Sheddit! to the Grants Committee.

 

Rachel Vollerthun thanked officers and members for their support and shared a presentation showing how the Community Chest Grant funded the project which included a launch festival to encourage residents to become more sustainable and a school visit to encourage young people to create biodiversity within the garden.

Other activities included a clothes swap, vegan farm, and repair café.

The Grants Advisory Committee was asked to consider the grant application for South Cambridgeshire District Councils, Electric Vehicle Charge Point Fund 2023/24 and make a recommendation to the Lead Cabinet Member for Finance.

 

SCDC’s Electric Vehicle Charge Point Fund 2023/24 (LGGZBFKD) - Would be approved and funded at the full amount requested of £12,592

The Grants Advisory Committee was reminded of the agreement in January 2022 to allocate £78,000 to provide financial support to children and young people’s organisations in the district in a one-off grant fund. Thirteen projects were funded totalling £77,920.33

 

The report provided followed on from the Children and Young People’s Grant Review provided on 24 June 2022 and provided the Grants Advisory Committee with an end of year update from each organisation as to how the one-off funds were spent and the outcomes attained.

 

The Grants Advisory Committee was asked to consider recommending an extension to the original timescales for the following applications:

 

Orchard Park Community Council (QKKZLZMZ) - The extension was granted, with the expectation of the report to be brought to the next Grants Advisory Committee.

 

Orwell Eco Youth Council (SCFVDWGV) - The extension was ganted.

 

Friends of Histon & Impington Community (HI Friends) (XSMCPDPN) - The extension was granted and the request for unspent funds of £1,980 to go towards mental health champion training, tutor group/assembly presentations and regular group supervision was granted.

The Grants Advisory Committee was asked to consider new applications received between 13 March 2023 to 31 March 2023 the Community Chest Grant funding scheme and make a recommendation to the Lead Cabinet Member for Finance.

 

It was noted that if all the Community Chest applications were funded, there would be a deficit of -£10,445.59 in the main Community Chest grant fund (excluding ring-fenced funds).

 

The following applications were considered:

 

Girton Bowls Club (CXPPNTGX) - to be funded at the requested amount of £865

 

Rampton Tea Club (GMCDSZFP) - to be funded at the requested amount of £1,000

 

Arts and Minds (ZBSPMKBS) - to be funded at the requested amount of £1,951

 

Bar Hill Allotment Society (NQDSHFJQ) - to be funded at the requested amount of £500

 

Meldreth Village Hall Trustees (DGWRPWMN) - to be funded at the requested amount of £2,000

 

ECO Whittlesford (QLKLHMNT) - to be funded at the requested amount of £1,500

 

Fulbourn Forum (RGLSZDCB) - to be funded at the requested amount of £450

 

Let's Run Girls Ltd (MDSFPTQP) (previously deferred) - to be funded at the requested amount of £1,650

 

A 6-month progress report was brought to the Committee from Hope against Poverty CIC that was funded in September 2022 was provided which included evidence on the distribution costs incurred (including how many parcels were delivered by the driver, how many were picked up in person, how many multiples were picked up by friends or relatives, and the fuel and van costs).
