Cllr Barbara Heaton-Smith (aka Cooper)- Chairperson
Longstowe Parish Council is your locally elected Council at the first tier of local government.
The Council considers local planning applications for the planning authority, the South Cambridgeshire District Council; provides notice boards, litter bins, dog waste bins and the bus shelters; arranges for local verge cutting on behalf of the Cambridgeshire County Council and works with that authority to ensure the maintenance of local footpaths.
The District Council deals with planning, housing, environmental health, leisure and facility grants, council tax collection and conservation.
The County Council deals with the police, emergency services, transport, health, education and social services.
Longstowe Parish Council usually meets every month on the third Thursday. Meetings are in the Village Hall starting at 7.15 p.m. These meetings are open to the public and generally this implies observing without interrupting. However there is a section at the beginning of each meeting when anyone may raise matters with the Parish Council. If the matter has either legal or financial implication it may need to be tabled for the next agenda however the Chairman will give guidance on this at the meeting. Residents can also write to the Clerk if they want to raise a matter.
Once a year (usually in April) and otherwise at the discretion of the Parish Council, Parish or Public Meetings are held. At these, members of the public have a chance to question and comment on any matter of concern. This is an opportunity for the Council to report to the Parish and explain policies.
Copies of the Parish Council's agendas and minutes can be downloaded from the Agendas and Minutes page.
For further information please contact the Clerk or any Parish Councillor.
Longstowe has a quarterly newsletter, called ‘Skylark’, which is produced by the Parish Council for the benefit of village.
