I taught Physics at an independent girls' school in Cambridge in a part time capacity for a number of years and retired in July '04. I have been actively involved in village life in various ways - I have been at various time Chair of the PTA of the school governors and of the Community Association. Whilst Chair of the Community Association I was co-ordinator of a group which carried out a village appraisal. Currently I am a governor at the school and churchwarden. I also sing in the church choir.
As a councillor I want to work to maintain the strong sense of community in the village and I am anxious that the village does not become merely a dormitory for Cambridge (and London) but remains a thriving and sustainable community with sufficient in the way of shops, services and amenities for residents not to be too dependent on outside provision. I am particularly anxious that we have decent provision for our young people - the present Youth Club premises are very inadequate and I am on a working party which is endeavouring to provide a new building for use by them and by the community in general.
