Decision details

Four-day Week Consultation

Decision Maker: Leader of Council

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: Yes

Purpose:

The purpose of this decision is to agree to a public consultation on the Council’s four-day week. The Council has been trialling a four-day week working practice and a consultation is required before councillors can consider whether, or not, to make the working model permanent.

A report on the four-day week consultation process (agenda item 7) was considered by Scrutiny and Overview Committee on 16 January 2025, and comments from the committee were noted, prior to the issuing of this notice.

Decision:

To carry out an eight-week public consultation on the four-day week.

Reasons for the decision:

To ensure the Councillors have the best information available to make a decision on the four-day week, and to ensure the Council meets its legal duties.

Alternative options considered:

The Leader could have chosen not to carry out a public consultation. However, a consultation is a requirement to fulfil the Council’s legal duties before a decision on whether to make four-day week working permanent is taken.
