Decision:
The Environmental Services Portfolio Holder agreed the proposals for the Community Clean Up initiative as outlined in the report.
Minutes:
Noting the Council’s commitment to ensuring that South Cambridgeshire continues to be a safe and healthy place for all, the Environmental Services Portfolio Holder considered a report about proposals to establish a programme of at least ten Community Clean Up events each year throughout the District.
Councillor Deborah Roberts urged caution, saying that many residents saw this as a district council function. In much the same way, parish councils might not be inclined to participate in clean-up events. There would however be a benefit in promoting such a scheme in partnership with Registered Social Landlords and the Council’s Affordable Homes service. The Portfolio Holder supported the idea of offering inducements in order to promote good citizenship and a sense of ownership.
