Information for District Councillors and Parish Councils

Funding Available to set up new Community Hubs

There is capacity for up to 8 extra Community Hubs (formerly Warm Hubs) in South Cambridgeshire, and we are currently taking expressions of interest for this. Cambridgeshire ACRE, commissioned by SCDC, are hosting a short online briefing session to explain more to interested parish councils, village halls management committees and other community groups about the support that would be available to set up a new Community Hub in their village. The online session is taking place on Tuesday 28 November at 6pm and will last no more than an hour. To register for the session, click here.

Please share with any groups that you think may be interested in this offer. These hubs will be in addition to the 12 existing hubs across the district, listed here.

South Cambridgeshire Christmas Market 2023 - Business Key Projects Team pdf icon PDF 681 KB

On Sunday 10th December 2023, from 11:00 until 15:00, South Cambridgeshire District Council is proudly hosting an indoor Christmas Market, at Cambourne Village College CB23 6FR, presenting local independent traders of all crafts from the district. The market is a follow-on from the highly successful Christmas Market in 2022 and will once again feature a diverse selection of businesspeople across 70 stalls with fantastic mobile food and drink caterers available to provide festive and warming refreshments.

At the Council, the Economic Development & Investments Team continues to support local businesses facing economically challenges whilst supporting local markets across the district. We recognise markets have always been cornerstones of our rural communities and we remain wholly committed to our Markets Programme which endeavours to continually provide trading opportunities to both market organisers and stallholders.

To that end, please kindly support our Christmas Market by visiting on Sunday 10th December 2023 for an event brimming with yuletide cheer, gift ideas and much more.

Lastly, we would very much appreciate our local Councillors promoting the news of our Christmas Market on their social media platforms and to our Parishes. We also welcome the opportunity to hear from our Councillors about volunteering at the event should they wish.

For more information, please visit Christmas Market 2023 or contact the Team at businesskeyprojects@scambs.gov.uk.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Rough Sleeping Annual Snap Shot Estimate

You may recall a similar request for your help in previous years, in order to provide an estimate of the number of people sleeping rough in the district. Last year our estimate was 5. We will again be trying to achieve a snap shot of the number of people sleeping rough in the district on a typical evening. This year, this will be overnight between 23rd/ 24th November 2023, and I would be very grateful if you could notify me if you are aware of anyone sleeping rough in your community on this evening.

For the purpose of the estimates, people sleeping rough are defined as:

“People sleeping, about to bed down (sitting on/in or standing next to their bedding) or actually bedded down in the open air (such as on the streets, in tents, doorways, parks, bus shelters or encampments). People in buildings or other places not designed for habitation (such as stairwells, barns, sheds, car parks, cars, derelict boats, stations, or “bashes”).

A bash is a makeshift shelter structure, often made from tarpaulin or wood.”

The definition does not include people in hostels or shelters, people in campsites or other sites used for recreational purposes or organised protest, squatters or Travellers.

Our estimate must only include those rough sleeping on that single night. Our typical night has been chosen taking into account local factors, it is a weekday and it is the same night as some of our neighbouring authorities are estimating or counting their figures.

Where possible and to prevent double counting it would be helpful if you can provide the following information when notifying us of any rough sleepers:-

  • Their location
  • Gender
  • Age brackets (under 18/ 18-25/ 26 - 40 and over 40)
  • Nationality (UK National/ EU National/ Non-EU National).

Please send any notifications of rough sleepers to:
