Information about Joint Local Planning Advisory Group

The Joint Local Planning Advisory Group is appointed by Cambridge City Council and South Cambridgeshire District Council. It is a non decision-making joint member group intended to facilitate the development of a shared policy understanding to allow the timely preparation of the new Greater Cambridge Local Plan, coordinated with transport policy.

In June and July 2022 members of South Cambridgeshire District Council (Cabinet) and Cambridge City Council (Planning and Transport Scrutiny Committee) received reports on feedback received to the Greater Cambridge Local Plan First Proposals Consultation, and agreed the timetable for the next stages the local plan process.

The next key member decisions (for South Cambridgeshire District Council’s Cabinet and Cambridge City Council’s Cambridge Planning and Transport Scrutiny Committee) in relation to the Draft Local Plan will be:

• A report to members to confirm the preferred options for the Local Plan strategy and sites (January 2023)

• A report to consider the complete draft local plan prior to consultation (anticipated date of June/July 2023)

Leading up to these decisions further member engagement is planned, to explore issues raised in the First Proposals feedback and to help inform development of the draft plan. This member engagement will be via the Joint Local Plan Advisory Group (JLPAG), which was set up with the purpose enabling such discussion.

JLPAG meetings be scheduled on an approximately monthly basis between October 2022 and March 2023, to provide an opportunity for officers to highlight comments received on the First Proposals, drawing out key issues, and for members to debate the issues in order to help develop the draft plan.

The meetings will be held remotely (not hybrid). The meetings will be for JLPAG members but are open to all members from both Councils to attend remotely, and to speak at the discretion of the Chair. They will be open to the public as observers only via livestreams and recordings made available on the South Cambridgeshire District Council YouTube channel.
