Council has committed to being a Disability Confident Employer and meeting the standards set out in the scheme. The aim is to progress from Level 1 to Level 2 by 2020 and then to Level 3 by 2021.

A Member Task and Finish Group has been established with the aim of identifying what measures the Council needs to take and by agreeing an action plan and activities to ensure that the Council meets the standards for each level.

At the Employment and Staffing Committee on 25 July 2019 the Task and Finish group reported on the progress made so far and acknowledged that it was necessary to link with local disabled groups and charities to ensure that we utilise their expertise and advice. It was agreed that the Council would wish  to pay for these expert services in a similar way to engaging any other expert consultant. The Lead Cabinet Member Considered this at the meeting and indicated agreement.

A recommendation was made that budget be made available (up to £5,000.00), to engage the expertise of local disability groups.
