Thursday 1 February, Guardian: MPs demand £4bn bailout for councils

Ministers must urgently inject £4 billion into English town hall budgets to head off an “out of control” financial crisis which threatens to drag well-run councils into effective bankruptcy and put local services at risk, a cross-party group of MPs has warned.

 

Friday 2 February, BBC: Debate Not Hate

The LGA’s Debate Not Hate campaign which aims to improve support for local politicians, was featured in a report about the threats and verbal abuse experienced by councillors in Trafford and Sunderland.

 

Saturday 3 February, Guardian: Charities warn of impact of council financial pressures

Citizens Advice and Age UK have warned of the “devastating impact” of the financial pressures on council.

 

Sunday 4 February, Observer: Opinion: Council funding

In an opinion piece, Observer columnist Will Hutton references the LGA’s estimates that one in five councils risk issuing a section 114 notice over the next two years.

 

Monday 5 February, Daily Mail: Household Support Fund ending

The LGA has warned that more families risk falling into poverty if the Household Support Fund, which is due to end on 31 March is not extended.

A survey of councillors by the LGA has found that 27 per cent of councillors will not seek re-election due to the volume of abuse and intimidation they have received.

To view the list of planning applications that have recently been submitted to the Council, please visit the authority’s on-line Planning Application Search. 

 

The system will provide a range of information on current and decided applications since 1948, including a brief description of the development, reference number, decision and the date of decision.  More recent applications show the name and telephone number of the council officer who is dealing with the application.

 

Search results are presented in a collection of pages, the number of which depends on the number of results your search produces.  There are navigation tools to allow you to browse your results.

 

 

 

Executive Decisions Taken Since Wednesday 31 January 2024

In accordance with the Access to Information Procedure Rules in Part 4 of the Council’s Constitution, any executive decision shall be published normally within five days of being made.  That record will bear the date on which it is published and will specify that the decision will come into force, and may then be implemented, on the expiry of 5 working days after the publication of the decision, unless called in for review by the Chairman of the Scrutiny and Overview Committee or by any five other councillors.

6.

Community Chest Grants- Guidance Amendment

The Lead Cabinet Member for Resources agreed to accept the recommendations of the Grants Advisory Committee. The new eligible parishes, (including those exceeding the electorate figure of 200 by 10%) will be contacted informing them of this amendment to the criteria.

 

This decision was first published on 31 January and so the deadline for call-in is 7 February 2024.

Greater Cambridge Authority Monitoring Report 2022-23

Cabinet:

 

1. Agreed the Cambridge City Council and South Cambridgeshire District Council - Authority Monitoring Report for Greater Cambridge 2022-2023 (included as Appendix A) for publication on the Councils’ websites.

 

2. Delegated any further minor editing changes to the Cambridge City Council and South Cambridgeshire District Council - Authority Monitoring Report for Greater Cambridge 2022-2023 to the Joint Director of Planning and Economic Development, in consultation with the Executive Councillor for Planning Policy and Transport.

 

This decision was first published on 6 February 2024, so the deadline for call-in is 13 February 2024.

2.    Authorise the Chief Executive to make any minor wording changes required to the final draft, in consultation with the Leader.
